A Poem for Every Question is perfect for children who just love asking questions – and getting hilarious answers and brilliant illustrations.
The questions in the book created by poet Brian Bilston and illustrator Joe Berger are wide-ranging and range over subjects as varied as: What's inside a tennis ball? to How long can you survive in a desert if you drank your own pee? and Will a great white shark eat me? to What is a primary colour?
One of my favourite poems and cartoon is: How does a honeybee build its hive? The poem is all about shape, within a shape – a hexagon – and the scientific explanation is contained within a slick of honey running from a honey tanker. Fits perfectly with my love and admiration for bees.
My other favourite is: Do elephants really hold each other's tails?
"Young elephants should be herd not seen, and so it was I would walk behind her, my mum's magnificent bottom a giant grey screen, as we set off on the long trail for water."
I'm sure you and your children will have fun finding your favourites too.
There's a useful glossary at the end of the book to explain the more complicated or scientific words used in the factual explanations which accompany each poem.
