Our nine-year-old grandson loves finding out about interesting facts and places and at bedtime, particularly, has been asking me to name a city or country and then he finds it within his atlas and reads out the facts. So when I saw Nature by Mamon Bucciarelli, with its attractive illustrations showing the natural world, I thought it would be ideal for him to explore. It has a different and unusual style that I find very engaging as does our grandson. He even called it "Great!" –faint praise indeed!
The book contains lots of information about habitats, animals and plants around the world. The child or adult reader is then required to match the description given with the illustration shown. I can tell you it is challenging at times and not as easy as it sounds. A piece of advice – a bit of homework may be required if like me the natural world is not one of your areas of expertise. Luckily the answers are neatly shown in the back of the book (don’t let on too early that this is the case). It does however give the child the opportunity, if using the book by themselves, to check their guesses.
Nature by Mamon Bucciarelli is a fascinating book for curious and inquisitive children and adults alike. Younger children may need assistance with reading some of the expansive language used. However it’s great for extending a child’s use of descriptive language whilst using illustrations to bring the words to life.
There are 16 different ecosystems used in this beautifully illustrated book ranging from deserts and beaches, ice-fields to mountains, gardens to forests – indeed it covers all aspects of planet Earth.
I’ve not only enjoyed sharing this book with our grandson but also found myself going back to it time and time again! A treasure trove of information and a book for the whole family.
