The Day the Crayons Made FriendsThe Day the Crayons Made Friends by Oliver Jeffers and Drew

Duncan’s crayons have disappeared and he has no idea where they have gone  until he starts to receive some surprising letters.

The first letter is from Red Crayon, who has fulfilled his dream by driving Duncan's toy fire engine, Purple Crayon becomes a piece  of the mystery board game  while White Crayon is seen at last as powerful  piece of the chess set.  Each crayon has an exciting story to share in their letters about the new objects they’ve met and the wonderful adventures they’ve had...

The last double page is a master stroke wherein Duncan works out how to see his crayons and meet their new friends.

Lizzie and I love the Crayons books and this own is written with a witty humour which will appeal to adults reading the letters to children in their charge.

Snow White and the Seven Bears by Michael Rosen and illustrated by David Melling

Snow White and the Seven BearsMichael Rosen is one of my heroes and I've loved everything he's written. This time he's taken a well known story and made his Snow White a descendent of the one who had a wicked stepmother. This Snow White also possesses the magic mirror which she consults when she can't find her Teddy Bear.

The mirror tells her she left him in the forest but she should be careful going out on her own. Snow White thinks she'd found her teddy but it turns out to be ... a real bear called Woody who offer to help find her bear.

And so begins an adventure through the forest as Alice meets a series of bears, each of whom joins in the search but actually they are much more interested in having fun – will she ever find her teddy?

An enchanting story with a delightful twist on the original fairy tale – Michael Rosen never disappoints.
