Matching Patches is a lovely little game. Six pairs of matching squares, with a coloured picture on one side and black and white patterns on the other, all neatly packed in a blue fabric drawstring bag.
This toy has a quality feel to it. It is beautifully made, each image is appliquéd and brightly coloured and inside each pair of squares there is a different texture which could add a third means of matching the pairs.
Toby enjoyed arranging and playing Matching Patches. It was gratifying to see how much pleasure he got from this simple, charming and educational toy. I was interested to note that he quickly matched the colour pictures but was really challenged to see that the monochrome abstract designs could be matched. For example, he was unable to distinguish between curvy and straight black and white lines but could see the black circles.
While we played the game Toby fed his four month old sister the crinkly fabric square which she happily chewed on.
Matching Patches would make an ideal gift for a pre-school girl or boy.
