Children's Book of ArtOne of the things that has always struck me when I visit schools is the quality of pupils' artwork. Some of it is simply stunning.

While not all of our children will want or aspire to be Turner prize-winners, it's interesting to note what a lot can be done with the right instruction and encouragement.

DK's Children's Book of Art is a fabulous reference book to have at home – it will help with any art homework. It focuses on artists who have changed the way we see things and will no doubt encourage creativity in the chidlren who consult it. Children will learn about the materials and techniques of art, discover why art was made, look at colour and paint, composition, light and atmsophere, storytelling and many more themes.

The layout is as you would expect colourful and user-friendly and there are sections on how to create effects like a Roman fresco or painting with pastels.

Children's Book of Art is also a journey through time with lots of examples of masters in the field. A great book for a birthday or Christmas present for children of both primary and secondary school age.
