The Clore Learning Centre is a new dedicated space for learning at the National Theatre, transforming the NT’s approach to education, offering events and courses for all ages, exploring theatre-making from playwriting to technical skills, often led by the NT’s own artists and staff.

Highlights of the forthcoming season include Family Days which take place on the first Saturday of every month and in school holidays. They are designed for children aged six to 12 and adults to enjoy together. Children under the age of six will not be admitted and all must be accompanied by an adult. Each adult may only be responsible for up to three children.

During Family Days you can:

  • Discover the skills and secrets behind productions at the National Theatre
  • Have a go at designing a costume or making a prop
  • Meet some of the team who work behind the scenes to bring NT productions to life

The Sherling High Level Walkway and viewing gallery

Open daily from 9.30am until 7.30pm, Sherling High-Level Walkway, offers visitors an exciting, free view into the backstage world and the opportunity to see NT productions being created before they reach the stage.

The Walkway runs from the Dorfman Theatre foyer and the new Clore Learning Centre, above the NT’s unique production workshops for set construction and prop-making. It ends in a viewing gallery over the vast scenic painting studio in the NT’s new production building, the Max Rayne Centre, where visitors can watch artists at work.

The Sherling High-Level Walkway has been developed with the generous support of Clive & Sally Sherling and is part of the NT Future project, which is opening up the National Theatre building and allowing audiences and visitors closer engagement with the theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes.

An exhibition on the Walkway, created by theatre designer Vicki Mortimer and supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, charts the theatre-making process at the NT and includes design samples from current productions and up-to-date information on what’s happening each day in the workshops.
