The first thing I noticed about the Hippychick range is the exceptional quality. One can tell immediately that they are made with practicality and good looks in mind: the attention to detail is fantastic.

Toby is a typically boisterous pre-schooler, happiest when falling off his scooter or climbing trees. He has been testing the fleece-lined jacket. The black jacket is made out of Teflon coated nylon which makes it completely waterproof, windproof and breathable and its fleece lining makes it comfortingly snug.

Importantly for Toby (who is itching to get to school) he thinks it is cool and that he looks like a schoolboy wearing it. I chose age five to six for Toby as he is a big boy but he still has plenty of room to grow and will definitely be wearing this coat to school every day come September.

Details like the reflective piping strips, easy to pull tabs on the zips, Velcro adjustable features on the hood and elasticated cuffs and hem all demonstrate Hippychick’s focus on quality. Unsurprisingly we’ve made the coat filthy in our testing but a wash at 30° has brought it back to new again every time.

Pippa is 14 months and just finding her feet with her first tentative steps and lots of walking on her knees (her version of crawling). She has been testing the pink and plum all-in-one. A typical second child, Pippa spends much of her time crawling around the skate park or under trees being climbed by her big brother. The all-in-one is absolutely ideal for throwing on over whatever she has on.

All the attention to detail shown on the coat is here too, from reflective strips to the particularly useful adjustable Velcro straps which make the hood fit perfectly and keep the wrists and waist snug. I have taken to keeping Pippa’s Hippychick waterproof underneath the buggy all the time so that damp days don’t have to spoil our outdoor entertainment. One particularly foul day at the park I realised that the buggy’s waterproof cover was drying at home, thankfully Pippa put on her Hippychick all in one and stayed snug despite my error!

This Hippychick All Weather range really does stand out; it is the Rolls Royce of wet weather and outdoor gear.
