Author Jo Wood is clearly passionate about organic living in all ways and is keen to transfer this passion and enthusiasm on to others.
Her own health issues and a chance meeting with a herbalist led Jo to change her lifestyle and that of her family, to one of complete organic living, free from all synthetic and man-made chemicals.
Naturally is divided into three main parts:
1. Eating Organically
Here the reader is made aware of what actually goes into our food and why and how we should eat organic. There are many mouth-watering recipes here ranging from appetising savoury dishes to delicious deserts.
2. Your Face and Body
The dangers of chemicals in everyday cosmetics are outlined, alongside the benefits of organic essential oils and other products such as jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil and shea butter etc, not to mention the importance of exercise and relaxation.
3. Creating a Greener Home
This section advocates the use of environmentally friendly cleaning products and stresses the importance of recycling and saving energy.
I liked the presentation of the book. Although the three parts are fairly long, they are all divided into shorter titled sections and attractively laid out, using a variety of fonts and bullet points effectively. The inclusion of photos and small sketches adds to the presentation, along with the easy style of reading.
Having finished reading Naturally, I do believe that a more organic lifestyle has got to be better but in order to carry out everything suggested, you would need a great deal of time and energy, especially if you were going to start planting organic gardens and growing all your own vegetables, not to mention quite a substantial income!
However, I feel if individuals can make some changes towards a more organic life style, they are moving in the right direction and I would recommend Naturally to provide people with thoughts and ideas.
On my recent visit to the supermarket, I did search the shelves a little more carefully for organic products and actually did finish up with more organic foods than usual in my trolley so I guess Naturally did have some impact on me. I was also delighted to find some aluminium free deodorant!
