Trevor Sorbie ShampooTrevor Sorbie's top tips to maintain a healthy, shiny head of hair that looks and feels fabulous.

  1. When you distribute the shampoo through your wet hair, make sure you focus the product at the roots, as this is where the majority of dirt will build up.
  2. When you lather the shampoo avoid doing a circular or scrunching motion on top of your head as this causes tangles, can damage the cuticle and deplete shine. Instead, you should always apply shampoo by following the direction the hair grows in, to smooth your cuticles down.
  3. Rinse well. Then, for a deep and thorough clean, shampoo again using the same motion. Don’t be too rough with the hair when shampooing, as this will irritate the scalp and stimulate grease.
  4. Work conditioner into the palms and distribute through the hair, focusing on the mid lengths to the ends. Avoid applying conditioner to the roots, as this can cause greasiness.
  5. Leave on the hair for two to ten minutes. The longer you leave the conditioner to penetrate the hair, the better the result. When it comes to conditioner, quality is definitely more important than quantity. The hair behaves like a sponge, so can only absorb so much.
  6. Comb the conditioner through and then rinse the hair well to ensure there is no product left in the hair.
  7. Trevor Sorbie ConditionerThe quantity of shampoo or conditioner is really dependent on the hair type and length of the hair. Generally, professional haircare shampoos are more concentrated, so you need less of them. Most women tend to use too much product, however usually a 50p piece size is the right amount.
  8. Lathering doesn’t translate to the shampoo working harder, it only reflects on the amount of sulphate used in the shampoo, which can also strip the hair. The level of lather can be affected by a number of factors, including how dirty the hair is; the first shampoo will always create less lather, as the hair is dirtier.
  9. Greasiness? Try using a lighter conditioner, or don’t be afraid of a leave-in conditioner. Not rinsing the hair properly can also cause product residue and encourage grease, as it causes hair to look lank and creates product build up.
  10. Changing shampoo and conditioner regularly to ensure the best results? A common myth that holds no truth. The only factors that may affect the results you are seeing from your shampoo and conditioner are perhaps any hormonal changes, or any seasonal changes that affects your hair’s condition. However changing your shampoo can help to break down any product build up that may have occurred from not rinsing the hair properly.
