Stripe Island by Tupera TuperaHarriet (almost five) loved Stripe Island. She took great delight in finding the character, Stanley, on each page – rather like Where's Wally? books – and that's no mean feat given the overwhelming number of characters wearing stripes.

Created by Tupera Tupera, a husband and wife design team based in Japan, Stripe Island is an engaging book that warrants reading over and over again as there's always something more to discover on the pages. Harriet enjoys the book and it's one of her top choices.

As you will guess from the title, Stripe Island is a whole world of stripey people, buildings and animals. And we arrive at the time of the Stripe Festival, a great occasion on the island.

One thing that irritated me was the stereotyping of characters: Stanley's mother knits stripey jumpers and his father does the stripey accounts. Not very imaginative or inventive in contrast to the concept of the island... That aside, this book makes a great gift for young children and emerging readers.
