If you've ever despaired of finding a plumber for a burst pipe or an electrician to fix the fuse box, you'll be in the 33 per cent of householders who have no idea where to look for good, reliable tradesmen. According to the same research carried out by a new website Jobsorted.com, 70 per cent of us worry about being ripped off.

Getting a good recommendation is ideal. However local forums can often be misleading with competitors writing bad reviews of rival companies or tradesmen. So the founding of a nationwide directory, Jobsorted.com, by B&Q and Screwfix means that the element of doubt has been removed. Over 150,000 tradesmen are registered; you can check their credentials and trade affiliations and see how other customers have rated their work.

The site is free for tradesmen to register and for members of the public to search (by region and job specification) for the expert they need.

So if a DIY job has gone wrong or you have an emergency you should be able to find a tradesman you can trust to save the day at Jobsorted.com
