Horse and Poby Colours by Lesley LodgeIn Lesley Lodge's first book about horses, Lights! Camera! Gallop! The Story of the Horse in Film she revealed a cornucopia of fascinating facts and revelations about the world of horses involved in film and television. She now takes the horse lover a stage further with Horse and Pony Colours.

In this Lesley Lodge discusses the range of colours – 50! – and includes some really fabulous photographs.

A horse's colour at birth is no guarantee of what colour he or she will be at adulthood and if they they end up in the world of cinema and TV their colours could change again, as the author explains in various chapters in which she elucidates how colours are chosen for movies and TV programmes and the artful use of make-up.

If you like spotting continuity errors, as Lesley obviously does, you'll not be surprised that in  Seabiscuit, the leading horse changes colour through the film from light honey-coloured bay to darker reddish bay.

Horse and Pony Colours, although aimed at a younger audience, makes a great companion book to Lights! Camera! Gallop.
