Go ApeTrent Park is a beautiful spot easily reached by tube to Cockfosters. Nestled there is a treetop adventure that was totally suited to the two 12 year old boys that I took on a lovely spring day. Expert tuition is given in preparation and then its off in the trees.

The boys were fearless and worked hard to get around the circuit. They were totally engaged and determined to finish. It was great to see them rising to the challenge especially my son whose fear of heights vanished immediately as he took on a sense of responsibility - I was stunned - it really gave him a boost. Three hours spun by swiftly with the boys rising higher and higher.

The staff were helpful and courteous. They kept a careful unobtrusive eye on us, zooming up when a harness needed tightening. Customer service is clearly a high priority with a concern for safety that was reassuring without making you feel nannied. The lack of safety nets is quickly irrelevant as you become confident in the equipment and realise that it is only your fear that is to be conquered.

My son would love to go back for his birthday.

The only advice that I would give is that perhaps take one adult per child – not for the kids (who observed the safety rules rigorously) or increased safety, but your own peace of mind and to allow them to move more quickly – the boys would have perhaps enjoyed themselves even more.

There was a lovely caff nearby that the boys ate mounds of chips afterwards. It was great to be out of the city.

PWT rating: ♥♥♥♥♥
