Garden noughts and crossesNoughts and crosses hadn't really impacted on our household until the arrival of this jumbo foam set. Intended for indoor and outdoor use, it's chunky and colourful.

The nine squares have to be clipped together like a giant jigsaw, which is all part of the fun, and then the game begins, with hefty Os and Xs to be placed on top of the squares.

Toby, aged five, quickly got the idea of Garden Noughts and Crosses although it was still gratifyingly easy to sneak a row of three past him (but probably not for that long).

"It's great and very big, let's play again," was Toby's take on the new game! The only fly in the ointment was his sister, Pippa's delight at the large Xs and Os, which were just the right size to make giant bangles or biscuits and hence kept going walkabout. Hopefully she'll learn the game herself in a couple of years and stop being so distracting...
