Filthy Creatures by David Williams"If you happen to be a cricket,

Never go on 'Just a Minute',

For dear reader, their sole redition,

Is from start to finish, repetition."

So begins "Cricket", one of the 17 poems in Filthy Creatures composed by David Williams.

I went along to the launch party and must say that to do the poems justice they are better read out loud. The irreverent tributes to specific creatures range from "Wilbur The Wildebeest" to "The Mosquito".

Following in the literary tradition of Edward Lear, David Williams highlights some of these creatures' less appealing habits and, as in the case of The Mosquito ponders why God should have created such a pest.  Each limerick ends with a tongue-in-cheek moral.
