English QuestI love board games – they are a wonderful way for families and friends to spend time together and it's great that so many new ones keep coming onto the market. English Quest™ is a fabulous family game for two to six players (or you could play in teams) aged over eight. Personally I think eight-year-olds would find some of the questions rather difficult (as would some adults) so team playing would be preferential for them.

The object of the game is to collect the letters Q U E S T and to do this you start playing with three gold sovereigns. Each player – or team – rolls the die and the player with the highest number chooses the airport he or she will start at and so on for each player. A player can move in any direction and, landing on a coloured dot (yellow = history, green = land and nature, purple = culture and blue = modern), has to answer a multiple choice question. If you answer correctly, you win a gold sovereign and have another go (max three times). With an incorrect answer the games moves to the next player. When you land on one of the letters you can choose which category you would like to answer. If correct you win the letter but have to pay a sovereign.

Once you have all five letters, head back to London (and pay the congestion charge of a gold sovereign!) and the winner is the first person to answer the question correctly in the category of their choice. To keep you on your toes there are jester cards along the way and if you run out of money you are out of the game!

English Quest™ is a great game for long winter evenings and a painless way to learn more about England. Highly recommended.

English Quest is available from Amazon as is Irish Quest
