For the last two weeks we have been testing the Graco iMonitor, a digital monitor which comes with two parent receiver units and recharging docking stations.

The reception is very clear, no hissing or crackling and no accidental eavesdropping on neighbours' monitors! Despite a house full of electronics - wireless networks, cordless phones, amps and electric guitars - interference is absolutely minimal.

The volume can be adjusted easily and I like the addition of LED (lights) indicators to show whether or not there is any noise, particularly handy if you’re in the shower and can’t hear a cry.

The parent units come with a recharging base and rechargeable batteries; the bases are small and unobtrusive. The parent units also feature an out-of-range indicator (the light changes from green to red) and the monitor beeps as well, which is a helpful feature.

We've never lost reception in our terrace house, but it did occur when we tested the monitor in a large country garden. The charger also bleeps when the battery is low but I used the parent receiver in its cradle most of the time so this has not been an issue.

The model we tested, the 2M99DIG, has dual parent units, a luxury that we’re enjoying. Should there be a power cut it also offers the added security of two battery operated units for extended use.

I can’t fault the Graco iMonitor. It is excellent and gives clear, crisp sound at an impressive range. The detachable docking station system is easy to use and incredibly convenient.

Baby monitors have come a long in the three years since we last used one and I'd recommend this system to anyone.

The imonitor™ is priced from £49.99 for a single parent unit and £79.99 with two parent units.
