dear zooThis year Children's Book Week takes place from 30 June to 4 July and schools, libraries and other venues all over the UK will be hosting events and activities to encourage children to read for pleasure.

In my mind one of the greatest gifts you can give a child is to inspire a love of books and reading.

the worst witchThe aim of Children's Book Week is to celebrate reading for pleasure. Designating a special day or week for book-related activities can help children to see reading as pleasurable and fun, stimulating them to discover new books, extend their reading choices, discuss and share books, explore libraries and bookshops, and do their own creative writing.

This year Booktrust with Amazon Kindle publish the best 100 books for children broken down into four age ranges:

the witchesThis list contains some of my family's all time favourites, inlcuding the first book Olivia was given when she was born: Dear Zoo. But the lists also include a few we haven't read. These lists are perfect if you are looking for a book to buy for a child for a birthday.

In fact a great way to celebrate Children's Book Week is to introduce a new book into a child's life. And it doesn't have to be an expensive treat: by give one of your own, picke up one from a charity shop or borrow from a library.
