Baby-Safe Plus car seatAs we all know it is far safer to keep baby rear facing in the car as long as possible so I am very happy that Thea is a little one and hasn’t needed to move up to the next stage of car seat yet. As such I was thrilled to be asked to try the new Britax Baby-Safe Plus car seat for her as it may even give us a few more months with her rear facing.

The car seat itself is a robust looking design but no heavier than our previous group 0+ car seat. It is nicely padded and is very soft which makes Thea very comfy but equally I can imagine it would be lovely to put a newborn in. It’s also really easy to use. Having never had an ISOFIX base I was amazed to see how easy it was to fit and then how much easier it is to get the car seat in and out of the car. I am slightly cursing the number of times that I have woken up a baby unhooking the seat belt to release them before. Equally though, without the ISOFIX base the standard seatbelt fixing is not at all difficult.

The seat itself has a five point harness which can be adjusted with ease and a particularly clever adjustable headrest. The headrest moves up and down the car seat to suit the size of your baby meaning that there is no need for any fiddly newborn inserts etc but also means that the seat really would be suitable for up to 15 months, particularly as the seat itself is quite long. Thea certainly has plenty of room left.

Other nifty features include a good self supporting sunshade which can sit quite low so would keep glare off even a tiny baby. Even the handle has an impressive three positions. The carry position, the stowed behind the head position and finally it can be pushed down behind the seat to enable a secure stand for the car seat. I thought that this was particularly clever as while its nice to be able to rock a baby in the car seat, they can also sometimes feel a bit precarious, this extra feature is a really nice bonus.

Overall I am really impressed with the Baby Safe Plus SHRII and will happily keep Thea in it until she objects or out grows it. Equally if we are blessed to have another newborn I’m sure they will be very happy in it!
