Bright Young ThingsThe MillaMia Bright Young Things knitting pattern book is a must for any keen knitters. I have only recently become interested in knitting, but it has quickly become an obsession and although I am still pretty slow I enjoy the result of seeing Harriet wearing something I've made!

Bright Young Things features babygrows, blankets, dresses, jumpers, cardigans and outerwear and the unique designs are sure to evoke comments and praise from all (if you don't go wrong!). There is something for all levels of knitters, from beginners to pros – and each pattern indicates the skill level needed. Each pattern also provides alternative colourways to create the right piece to suit you and your child.

The patterns are based on distinctive Swedish aesthetic – clean and contemporary yet with a fun, bright edge. The fun yet practical patterns illustrate how the two sisters, Katarina and Helena Rosén, who wrote the book and designed the patterns saw a gap in the market for their individual designs. Helena has a background in fashion design which is perhaps why their clothes are so idiosyncratic and original. Hand knitted pieces are so precious and can be passed down generations with love which is much more satisfying that buying a similar item in the shop although it is more work!

At the John Lewis Christmas in July Press Show I met Karina who was extremely nice and talked enthusiastically about Bright Young Things and how they wanted to bring knitting into the 21st century, with bold, colourful and bright designs that children everywhere would enjoy. The modern baby and children patterns are vibrant and playful, reflecting many children's cheeky personalities.

I love all the patterns in Bright Young Things and can't wait to get knitting! The book has something for everyone and I highly recommend it.
