Barbie The Princess & The PopstarFrida is very into music at the moment, so we were both delighted that this film was also a musical ( the first Barbie musical since 2007). The basic premise of the film is a modern twist on the Prince and the Pauper story that sees Barbie play a princess who changes places with a popstar. Tori is a shy princess who dreams of being a popstar, while Keira is a brash popstar who longs to be a princess. The two characters meet and fast become friends who find out that, with the help of a little shared magic, they can swap places and discover what it’s like living in each other’s shoes. Barbie The Princess & The Popstar is filled with music, and Frida enjoyed this the most and I enjoyed hearing Cindy Lauper's "Girls just wanna have fun". Frida did some spontaneous dancing on the living-room floor to most of the tracks and announced after watching the film that her next birthday party was to be a popstar one! As with the last Barbie movie there is a real attempt to move beyond basic stereotyping and I enjoyed the social and moral message at the end.
