50 Amazing facts – scienceFact: children love facts, particularly when they are presented in bite size chunks with lots of diagrams.

Anne Rooney's book entitled 50 Amazing Things Kids Need to Know About Mathematics and 50 Amazing Things Kids Need to Know About Science by Penny Johnson tap into this appetite for knowledge.

Aged almost seven, Toby felt that he was "nearly too young for these books" but enjoyed the format of the books which are set out in 50 short "chapters" with enticing titles like How to win the lottery, How to contact an alien and How to write a secret message.

50 Amazing facts – maths50 Amazing Things Kids Need to Know About Mathematics particularly caught Toby's attention with its puzzles, games and accessible examples and illustrations. Toby's current topic at school is London Landmarks so he particularly liked the chapter titled How to Bend a Building which asked how architects make curved buildings and roofs from straight edges and used the Gherkin in London to illustrate the point.

The books reinforce the National Curriculum for maths and science and are designed to be suitable for children of all abilities aged seven to 11 years old. For Toby, these are books to grow into which he will be able to reference for many years and when he isn't looking at it his grandpa, a mechanical engineer, certainly fancied a look!
