Altomincio GrillAs Thomson Al Fresco Altomincio Family Parc is designed for families with young children, it's no surprise that the places to eat were equally child-friendly!

Judging by the pizza packaging we saw in bins the Take-Away (open from about 5.30pm) was very popular! It served a variety of food including salads and roast vegetables as well as pizza.

During the daytime, Froggy's Bar, conveniently near the pools, was open for burgers, sausages etc and chips plus some veggie dishes and pasta. We had some pasta on the day we arrived and it wasn't great. Plus beware asking for a glass of wine and it comes in a tumbler – we shared one!

Nearby is the Gelatario selling a wide variety of ice creams  plus soft and alcoholic drinks. The staff were absolutely lovely and Harriet had to go back each day to say hello (she hasn't graduated to ice cream yet but her mother loved them!). For a captive audience the fare was reasonably priced and you could have teas and coffee there too and there was a limited range of sweets to choose from including my favourites Liquorice Allsorts!

We went to the Altomincio Grill three times. High chairs are readily available together with a children's menu that you can colour in, join the dots and enter the maze – although we were hard put to find pens that worked! The children's menu listed five main dishes and included and ice cream for 5.90€. There were three pasta dishes (one veggie) plus sausages or chicken nuggets with French fries.

Harriet's appetite didn't justify a dish of her own and anyway we prefered her to eat the same as us. My favourite was Tagliata di Pollo which was sliced chicken with radicchio and balsamic vinegar sauce (8€) and Olivia's was Tortellini (6.5€). We loved the bruschetta was was so huge we shared! A half carafe of house wine went down very nicely with these!

The Altomincio Grill is open evenings only from 18.30 to 22.30.
