DK Eyewitness InventionToby was given the new Eyewitness book on Invention to review. "It's fascinating to see what was invented first," said Toby while telling me how cool the page on Flight is and that the first creatures to fly in a manmade craft were a cockerel, a duck and a sheep.

The DK Eyewitness series has been created in association with the Science Museum and a read through this book feels just like a walk around the museum itself as one discovers the stories behind some of the world's most remarkable inventions from transport to the telephone, medical inventions to the silicon chip.

Invention is perfect for any child hungry to learn about objects and discoveries and how they have changed our world. There are 200 colour pictures, diagrams and more facts than we could count. The book has been written to support Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum and is full of ideas for school projects.

The book starts by defining what an invention is and explains that some inventions are created individually and at other times they are the result of team work. The Eyewitness Book series can not be faulted; the Inventions book teaches about products which are part of our everyday life and is packed with information for its young audience whilst educating rusty parents on many important facts too.

For anyone fascinated by inventions and inventing this is a perfect book and it comes complete with a wall chart to put on the back of the bedroom door too!
