Celebrate Bengali New Year at the Museum of London

The Museum of London is celebrating the Bengali New Year in style with a host of free events to entertain the whole family on Tuesday 14 April.
 
Words of the Golden Lotus
12 to 12.30pm & 4 to 4.30pm
Join Shanti, the lost daughter of an old merchant, on her perilous journey of trials and adventures to discover herself, save her family and inherit her new heritage. A tale inspired by traditional Bengali Folktales, Words of the Golden Lotus is the story told in poetic verses in English with elements of Bengali song, rhyme and rhythm.
 
Alpona Painting
12.30 to 1.15pm, 1.30 to 2.15pm & 3 to 3.45pm
Alpona is a traditional floor decoration which is made by sprinkling rice flour to form intricate patterns. Create your own beautifully designed Alpona painting.

Places are limited; please collect tickets on arrival. Suitable for children aged five plus. (Ticketed: first come first served)
 
Abdul Miah
1 to 1.30pm & 3 to 3.30pm
Meet Abdul Miah, an Asian sailor on board the Fort William East Indiaman. Listen to his tales of bravery, travel and adventures.
 
Bangladeshi Variety Show
2 to 3pm
Enjoy a show of Bangladeshi arts and culture including New Year traditional songs and music performed by the Kobi Nazrul children's group. Places are limited; please collect tickets on arrival.
 
Bangla folk dance workshop
3.15 to 3.45pm
Learn a Bangla folk dance and tell a story through your moves about rain and the natural beauty of Bangladesh. Places are limited; please collect tickets on arrival.
 
Children’s storytelling and songs
4 to 4.50pm
Enjoy some traditional stories and songs performed by the Kobi Nazrul Centre’s students for International Mother’s Language Day.
